Last week I wrote about how believing needs to begin again every morning. That’s why none of us can boast of our faith, we are all beggars of grace. But this does not mean that we weren’t called to grow in faith. Faith is not a pill we swallow once in our lifetime. Rather it is an organic connection with God we are all invited to enter. And this is where we can grow in faith.

We are called to grow in faith but we are all in different phases on our faith journey. Newborn babies get spiritual milk and more mature ones have solid food. It’s sad if we never grow in faith and get out of bottle feeding. Because then so many life-supporting and empowering blessings never reach us.

I am writing to you, little children (believers, dear ones), because your sins have been forgiven for His name’s sake [you have been pardoned and released from spiritual debt through His name because you have confessed His name, believing in Him as Savior]. I am writing to you, fathers [those believers who are spiritually mature], because you know Him who has existed from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men [those believers who are growing in spiritual maturity], because you have been victorious and have overcome the evil one. I have written to you, children [those who are new believers, those spiritually immature], because you have come to know the Father. (1 John 2:12-13, AMP)

Called to grow in faith

Did you catch it? Children know that their sins have been forgiven for Jesus’ sake. But our journey of faith does not end here. Rather we are invited into living our lives with God. If we accept this invitation, we grow in faith without even noticing it.

Young men (and women) are already growing in their faith. They have realized the life of a Christian is full of spiritual battles but they’ve also learned they are perfectly fine even in the storms of life because they’re on the victor’s side.

Fathers (and mothers) have shared their lives with God for a long time already and have gotten to know him well. They know that the everlasting God is everything the Bible tells him to be. And so much more.

So be encouraged to grow in faith. Seek God, be organically connected with him, and talk to Jesus daily. Let the Holy Spirit guide your life. Then you naturally keep on growing in faith and also you are able to rejoice in the Lord every day of your life.

Dear God,
Thank you for offering us salvation in Jesus,
we receive it with gladness.
Help us to remember that even this is not all you want for us,
you invite us into a deeper connection with you
and to grow in faith all our days.
Guide us, equip us, bless us so
that we can keep on growing in faith and getting to know you.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
