Lent has lasted now for six weeks. Have you learned anything new? I’ve come to understand more deeply it’s all about God. My contribution to my salvation is my need to be saved. God has provided everything else. It’s God’s grace from start to finish.

We all need God and his grace. There has not been, is not, and will not be a human being who does not Jesus to save him. Just think about Peter who had a fundamental place in the early church, he denied his Lord three times. Even Peter needed Jesus to die on the cross for his sins. And my need for Savior is much greater than his.

We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. (Romans 3:22-24, NLT)

God’s salvation plan is flawless and perfect. He has taken care of even the smallest details. Jesus had to come to save us, otherwise, none of us could be made right with God. No matter how hard it is to acknowledge Jesus’ path to the cross, it had to be done or there wouldn’t be the joy of salvation.

Grace from Start to Finish

So I humbly walk with Jesus this week. I can’t contribute anything to my salvation but my need to be saved. God gives me everything I need for it. For free. It’s God’s grace from start to finish.

First, he calls me to turn back to him, then he enables me to believe in Jesus and gives me grace upon grace. Truly, my salvation is from start to finish all God’s doing. And he does not do this grudgingly but with endless love and joy. He rejoices over everyone who comes back to him and receives his gifts.

So I humbly walk with Jesus to the cross. You see, I feel beyond blessed to be called a child of God and receive his good gifts to all his children. And we are not ‘just’ saved, we are also made heirs. God calls us to live in his love every day of our lives. Not because we’d be so worthy but because of who he is: Love.

Gracious God,
Thank you for loving us so much that you sent Jesus to save us.
We are in awe of your love.
As you know we don’t have anything but our great need to be saved.
Forgive us of our sins.
Pour out grace upon grace and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
We surrender to you and praise you forever.
In Jesus’ precious name,
