You Will Also Rise

You will also rise

How was your Easter? It probably was less social than usual but blessedly the message of Easter was as – or even more – powerful than ever. Because Jesus has risen, we have hope upon hope. Jesus’ resurrection was not just for some good people or it wasn’t some general sign of goodwill on God’s behalf. No, Jesus died for everyone, especially for hopeless and sinful. And what’s important: Jesus rose on the third day. So you will also rise.

For I handed on to you as of first importance what I in turn had received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures. (1 Cor. 15:3-4, NRSV, emphasis added,*)

For the Lord himself, with a cry of command, with the archangel’s call and with the sound of God’s trumpet, will descend from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up in the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the air; and so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words. (1 Thess. 4: 14-18, NRSV, emphasis added,*)

You will also rise

So you’d better believe it: you will also rise. All the believers in Jesus will rise to be with the Lord forever. Phillips Brooks has said “Let every man and woman count himself immortal. Let him catch the revelation of Jesus in his resurrection. Let him say not merely, ‘Christ is risen,’ but ‘I shall rise.'”

So you will also rise. How awesome is that? All the believers in Jesus are immortal. Nothing can keep us away from God’s love and his presence. We are on our way home to heaven. Easter is so much more than bunnies and chocolate eggs. And it’s not just about Jesus’ resurrection. Because of Easter, you will also rise. Hallelujah!

Gracious God,
Thank you for raising Jesus on the third day.
And thank you for rising all the believers one day.
Help us to embrace our immortality in Jesus.
Fill us to the brim with Easter joy.
In Jesus’ precious name,
Amen

Q4U: How does it feel to embrace the resurrection for yourself?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you take in all the blessings of Easter!
