Forward in Faith

Move forward in faith

We live in uncertain times for sure. It’s hard to plan but we can’t stop living. So we need to move forward in faith. Sure, it’s easier said than done but it is possible. It all starts with prayer. Always with prayer. And it continues with prayer. Always with prayer.

You never saw him, yet you love him. You still don’t see him, yet you trust him—with laughter and singing. Because you kept on believing, you’ll get what you’re looking forward to: total salvation. (1 Peter 1:8-9, MSG,*)

You see, if we forget to pray, we forget God out of the picture. And that leads to disaster no matter how well-intended our actions are or how well we prepare. Just look at the Old Testament, there we see how many times the Israelites forgot to ask for God’s guidance and help. And it did not end well.

Why do we forget to pray when God is more than willing to help? This is beyond me yet I forget too. Thankfully, I am learning and there are fewer and fewer incidents when I forget to pray. Because I’ve experienced first-hand prayer does bring God’s help. So I do not want to live without God anymore.

Forward in faith

We can move forward in faith when we pray and lean on God as we keep on going forward. Right now moving forward looks different due to COVID-19. But we can move in forward when prayerfully prepare for the future as we are able. For me, it means I keep on praying and reading the Bible, I keep taking long walks outside, I clean my cupboards and go through my closets, I prepare lessons in advance. So when we finally will get a go-ahead, I’m ready to move forward.

Don’t burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. Don’t quit in hard times; pray all the harder. Help needy Christians; be inventive in hospitality. (Romans 12:11-13, MSG,*)

Martin Luther King Jr. has said “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase”. So we prayerfully keep on taking small steps even when we don’t see the whole picture. We prepare our hearts and minds and our bodies, we work diligently towards the future trusting God will take care of us both now and in the future. And all will be well. So we thank God for what we have today and praise him for the future he is giving to us. And that’s what moving forward in faith is all about.

Gracious God,
Thank you for inviting us to always come to you.
We come to you a bit worried and confused,
be our peace and clarity, be our everything.
So we thank you for what we have and
we praise you for the future you’re giving to us.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
