Comfort for Hurting Hearts

Comfort for Hurting Hearts

Comfort for hurting hearts

Summer is here. How wonderful. Yet I know there are many who are exhausted or depressed or disappointed or not just feeling it. This post is for you. Know that you don’t have to be excited about summer, you can feel blues and that’s fine. But, please, do know where you can get comfort for hurting hearts.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. (2 Corinthians 1:3-4, NIV, emphasis added)

That place is, of course, the foot of the cross. Jesus is ready to hold you as you cry. That’s already awesome, so many of us don’t have anyone to comfort us. But Jesus also offers us grace upon grace. Let his grace revive you, rejuvenate, and restore you. Because God’s grace is more than you can imagine.

Sure, grace saves. But it also channels God’s healing power. When we crawl to Jesus, we can be certain he has comfort for hurting hearts of ours. No matter what is ailing us, he has what we need. This might sound too good to be true but it isn’t so. I have experienced this first-hand time and time again. And, most importantly, Jesus is God. He is alive and working on our behalf.

Comfort for hurting hearts

So don’t hesitate to crawl to Jesus and cry out what’s hurting you. There’s no other place for real comfort in this world. But here you don’t need to pretend, you don’t need to spear Jesus’ feelings. He knows what it feels like when everybody turns against you or when your heart is breaking for one reason or another. Jesus knows and understands. And he has what you need. So crawl to Jesus. He will comfort you.

It is the most amazing feeling to be heard and comforted. And helped. Jesus will not leave you, he heals you. You receive new strength in his grace. It is a miracle, really. Let it happen, receive it. And guess what? You can’t use it up. Grace is new every morning. No matter when – or where – you need comfort, Jesus is there. Jesus brings comfort to hurting hearts 24/7. Just ask and you shall receive.

Gracious God,
Thank you for always being there for us.
Help us to remember you when we need you most.
Give comfort for hurting hearts,
pour out grace upon grace.
Rejuvenate and restore, Lord.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: How are you feeling? Do you need comfort for your soul?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you seek Jesus!

Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting comfort and encouragement and the good [well-founded] hope [of salvation] by His grace,  comfort and encourage and strengthen your hearts [keeping them steadfast and on course] in every good work and word. (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17, AMP,*)
