Worthy of God’s Love

Worthy of God’s Love

Worthy of God's Love

Because you’re worth it, says a cosmetic company to urge you to buy their products. It is a clever advertisement as it targets our longing to be worthy somehow. I hate to break it to you but there’s no such a product that could ever make you feel worthy. But I do know someone who can do it. Jesus thinks you’re to die for. You’re worthy of God’s love. There isn’t higher praise than that.

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. (Eph. 2:4-5, NIV,*)

You are – and every single person on this earth is – worthy of God’s love. He created you and loves you very, very much. This does not mean he would love our sins but he loves us. This is precisely why God sent Jesus to save us. God created us worthy of his love but since Adam and Eve, we’ve been living in a tangled mess. And we need Jesus to get us out of it.

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. (1 John 4:10, NIV,*)

Worthy of God’s love

The amazing thing is this: when we confess our sins and our need for a savior, we receive grace upon grace and a new life with God. Not because we’d have earned it somehow but because what Jesus did on the cross for our sake.

The fact that we can’t earn our salvation does not mean we’d be unworthy of God’s love. No, we are always worthy of God’s love but we can’t make ourselves holy without Jesus. There’ s a huge difference. Every single person on this earth needs Jesus to be saved. But everyone is already loved by God.

So know your worth: you are loved by your Creator. Nothing or no one can ever take away your value. You don’t need to beg for it (not from God and certainly not from other people), it’s been yours since the beginning of time. You’re God’s beloved and now it’s time to live it out. Love yourself, love your neighbor, and especially love God with everything you’ve got.

Gracious God,
Thanks for providing us everything we need:
love, acceptance, and salvation in Jesus.
We humbly receive your gifts and praise you.
Thank you for loving us without any pre-requisites
and thank you for changing us for the better.
Help each of us to first receive your love
and then learn to love ourselves and our neighbors as well.
Show us how to live extravagantly and generously in your love.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: Do you know you’re worthy of God’s love? Does it change how you live and love?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you receive God’s free gifts of love and salvation and let them change you inside out!
