Licensed to Pray

Licensed to Pray

Licensed to pray

Do you know that as a child of God you’re also a special agent of God? Yes, you’re called to do good in this world. And you’re empowered to do so by God’s grace. One of the most important tools in this is prayer. You are licensed to pray, to ask God anything in Jesus’ name.

“This is what I want you to do: Ask the Father for whatever is in keeping with the things I’ve revealed to you. Ask in my name, according to my will, and he’ll most certainly give it to you. Your joy will be a river overflowing its banks! (John 16:23-24, MSG,*)

Did you catch that? Jesus tells us to ask and keep on asking God for anything we need to do his work in this world. We are licensed to pray in Jesus’ name. And that makes us better equipped than any secret agent in the world.

Licensed to pray

A.B. Simpson has said “Our God has boundless resources. The only limit is in us. Our asking, our thinking, our praying are too small. Our expectations are too limited.”

Wow. Truly, we expect too little from God. Hence we do not pray big enough prayers. Ouch. It’s time to remedy that, right? We are called and licensed to pray big, beautiful, impossible prayers. We have an awesome God with limitless resources for his work in this world. So let’s pray like never before. Let’s pray in Jesus’ name and expectantly wait on God to respond according to his will.

Rest assured, our prayers won’t be in vain because God has promised to respond when we pray according to his will and in Jesus’ name. Then also our joy will be a river overflowing its banks, as the Message Bible put it. I’m ready to have abundant joy. How about you?

Dear God,
You’re so good to us,
we don’t know even half of it.
Open our eyes to see the world with your eyes.
Remind us to keep on asking.
Empower us to do your work in the world.
Guide our thoughts and prayers,
show us what is important and how to best use our resources.
Thanks for calling us to partner with you.
Bless us according to your will, Lord.
Make us what you want us to be.
In Jesus’ name, we pray,
Amen

Q4U: Do you use your license to pray often enough? Why/why not?

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you pray like never before!
