There’s just something special about hearing the Word spoken to you, don’t you think? That’s why I sometimes read the Bible out loud to myself. I need to hear it, reading is not just quite enough. Today I started reading Psalm 61 out loud and just hearing the title of the Psalm “I seek the shelter of your wings” touched my heart. At that moment I had come home: under the shelter of God’s wings.
When I heard these words coming from my mouth, I realized this is exactly what I seek when I open my Bible. In the cross-pressures of life, I do seek God and the shelter of his wings, I ask for protection for my journey and blessings to my life. I was only just about entering the Word of God and I had already been blessed by God’s comforting presence.
Hear my cry, O God;
Listen to my prayer.
From the end of the earth I call to You, when my heart is overwhelmed and weak;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I [a rock that is too high to reach without Your help].
For You have been a shelter and a refuge for me,
A strong tower against the enemy.
Let me dwell in Your tent forever;
Let me take refuge in the shelter of Your wings. Selah.
(Ps. 61:1-4, AMP,*)
No matter how far from home we are or how difficult circumstances we face, God is never far away from us. He is wherever we are, so we can call him even from the end of the earth. God hears our whispers, even our wordless groans.
We can reach out to God also as we are, we don’t need to pretend not to be overwhelmed and weak. He is ready to be our strength and calm our spirit. But we should not stay away from God when things are going well for us. Then we are invited to enjoy God’s presence.
Without God’s help, many things are out of our reach. Especially when we are overwhelmed and weak. But with God’s help, we are able to have a shelter and a refuge when we need it. You see, we can’t but God can. He is our hope, strength, and comfort. So when you are at the end of your rope, crawl to Jesus. He will take care of you. You can be overwhelmed and weak, he is enough for both of you.
So let’s continue to seek the shelter of God’s wings. Daily. He will bless us and cover us with his grace. And he will renew our strength and give us reason to live and love anew. Let’s receive God’s help and hope upon hope!
We crawl to you,
we seek the shelter of your wings.
Take care of us, Lord.
Cover us with your grace.
Renew our spirit and strength.
Bless us as only you can.
In Jesus’ name,
Q4U: How do you feel about seeking the shelter of God’s wings?
Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you seek the shelter of God’s wings!
