Are You Ready to Die?

Lately, I’ve been reminded of how precious life is. People die in accidents, even young athletes suffer cardiac arrests, and so on. We don’t know when will be our time to go. How should we then live? And, even a more important question is: are you ready to die?

Lord, what are human beings that you care for them,
mere mortals that you think of them?
They are like a breath;
their days are like a fleeting shadow.

(Psalm 144:3-4, NIV)

When we have answers to these questions we will treat life as precious and maybe even sacred. You see, when we are not afraid of dying, we are ready to live fully.

Teach us to number our days,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

(Psalm 90:12, NIV)

Are you ready to die?

In order to be ready to die we need, first of all, to know where we will spend eternity. When we know we will spend eternity in heaven, we are ready to die when our time comes. Because there are better things ahead for all who believe in Jesus.

Second of all, we need to stop wasting our time on meaningless activities. Time is precious. Life is precious. We need to seize the day and make the most of it. Living with Jesus, we dare to go outside of our comfort zone and live as we have only dreamed on our own.

Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love,
that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.

(Psalm 90:14, NIV)

Nothing in the world satisfies us but Jesus. Hence let’s not seek happiness apart from him. When we fill our hearts with God’s love and grace in the morning, we can be agents of peace in this world. No one needs to live in fear or angst because God’s grace is more powerful than anything in this world.

So we have a lot to do. Not on our own or in our own power, but with God and by his power. Talk about meaning and purpose. Go, be filled with grace, and share it with the world!

Gracious God,
Thank you for preparing the way for us in Jesus.
Without him, we would be helpless.
But with him, we have everything we will ever need.
With Jesus, we are ready to die.
Show us how to live boldly with meaning and purpose.
Fill us with your love and grace,
empower us to do your will.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

P.S.

Dear friends, do not be afraid. Trust in Jesus and he will personally take care of you. Know that life is better with Jesus and eternity with him is priceless. Joy and blessings to you!
