Do you feel you’ve forgotten, that nobody will choose you? Know that those thoughts are all lies. Do not believe what others might be whispering or how you feel in this matter. Instead, trust the Bible telling you truly are worthy of God’s love. Mary DeMuth exposes ten lies and shares ten truths in her latest book Stop Living Small: Ten Truths Toward Your Significant Life. This post will tackle the seventh lie which is “You deserve to be overlooked” by reminding you that you are chosen by God Almighty. And you’re called for so much more.

You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you and I have appointed and placed and purposefully planted you, so that you would go and bear fruit and keep on bearing, and that your fruit will remain and be lasting, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name [as My representative] He may give to you. (John 15:16, AMP)

Mary DeMuth gives us very counter-cultural advice. Instead of concentrating on becoming chosen, picked by our peers, we should concentrate on bearing fruit instead. Powerful, radical, exciting, don’t you think?

Mary writes, “The problem is that throughout life, we let go of picking—or concentrating on—fruit. We care more about being picked. Our lives become a stage on which we perform to garner the attention of the popular folks, all the while forgetting that we’ve already been picked by the Most Popular One.”

You are chosen by God

Yes, we’ve already been picked by the Most High. We are worthy and loved. And we are free to focus on something else, like bearing fruit.

Mary continues, “We should not be preoccupied with being chosen by others. We’ve already settled that God, the Creator of all of the humans on this earth, has chosen us. Life should be consumed by producing great fruit.”

I think Mary is so right. Until we let go of our worldly worries of this or that, we are not ready to bear fruit. We need to focus on Jesus and we become fruitful. It’s that simple.

What to do with our worries then? Bring them to Jesus. If you’ve been hurt by others, cry to Jesus. And if you feel like an outsider, come to Jesus. Whatever it is that troubles you, bring it to Jesus. You will be healed, you will be loved. And you will bear fruit. Believe me, that is the ultimate best for you.

Gracious God,
Thank you for choosing us, loving us.
Forgive us for focusing on our worldly worries
and forgetting you.
Especially because you have the answers to our problems.
We surrender to you and bring you our worries.
Heal us, help us, Lord.
We want to focus on you and bear fruit for you.
Bless us, Lord.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

P.S.

Isn’t it sad how easily we wander off our path? Our daily worries keep us barren, how sad! I think it is time to learn to bring those worries to Jesus and choose to focus on Jesus instead. We can make a huge difference in the world if we start focusing on Jesus and loving people with his love and grace. Blessings to you, my friend!
