What is your life story? Do you think you’re stuck with the cards you were dealt with and there’s no way you can alter the course? Think again. God the Creator is still at work, also in your life. So you are restoried, continually. Mary DeMuth exposes ten lies and shares ten truths in her latest book Stop Living Small: Ten Truths Toward Your Significant Life. This post will tackle the tenth lie which is “you are flawed” by reminding you that God is the author and editor of your life and its Restory.

Mary DeMuth writes, “We forget God’s bigness. We replace that bigness with what seems to be the enormity of our failed story. Or we blame everyone else for its outcome. Or we forget that we have a very real adversary who lurks around every corner of our story-world, seeking to kill, destroy, and steal from us.”

You are not stuck even if it feels like it. God is at work in your life. And that means anything is possible. You just need to believe and remember what God has done in the lives of his imperfect children. God is still creating. When you abide in Christ, you are restoried. We are all works in progress.

I am convinced and confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will [continue to] perfect and complete it until the day of Christ Jesus [the time of His return]. (Phil. 1:6, AMP)

You are restoried…

The key here is to realize God uses flawed, imperfect people in his story. Noak was a drunk, Jacob was a liar, Abraham was too old, Jeremy and Timothy were too young, Martha worried about everything, Moses stuttered, and Jonah run from the Lord. You get the picture. Yet God used them in mighty ways.

It’s not about us, it’s about God. Our task is to lean on him and invite him to work in and through us. God uses flawed people. We are all graciously imperfect. So we fit right in. You know, it is finished for you – but not in you.

And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose. (Romans 8:28, AMP)

…according to His plan and purpose

We need to let go of our traumas and sad life events and surrender them to Jesus. Then he can rework them into something beautiful. God wants good things for us and he can restory our stories for his glory. Sometimes we don’t want to let go of our old stories even though we hate them. But we need to let them go in order for God to give us something new. Ask God’s help for this. He will help you to let go. You can’t but God can.

God is inviting you into his healing presence. There are no victims, only victors in Jesus. God’s doors are open for us anytime. Like last week when I got a rejection (which stung even though it was expected). I prayed but didn’t get immediate peace. It was an end to a dream and it needed to be mourned. But then, while waiting for my mum, I started to pray the Lord’s prayer, and somehow that hurt was taken away just like that. God still heals and restories our lives according to His perfect plans for us. He will not let us go through the wrong doors and while preventing that he also blesses us with his loving presence.

Gracious God,
Thank you for loving us as we are, our flaws and all.
We surrender to you, Lord.
Use us for Your glory.
Thank you for not giving up or forgetting us.
Be the author and editor of restoring us.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

P.S.

How special and comforting it is to know God is with us, for us, and in us. God loves us, our flaws and all. And he has a good plan for each of us and he will bless us with his grace, peace, and joy. God loves you more than you know and while you abide in Him, you are restoried. Blessings upon blessings!
