Turn On the Holy Spirit GPS! (re-post)

Turn On the Holy Spirit GPS! (re-post)

Way too often we struggle alone. Way too often we forget to turn on the Holy Spirit GPS. God gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit and we are meant to abide in him and him abide in us. It doesn’t happen if we forget its existence. It doesn’t happen if we forget to turn it on.

But you, dear friends, carefully build yourselves up in this most holy faith by praying in the Holy Spirit, staying right at the center of God’s love, keeping your arms open and outstretched, ready for the mercy of our Master, Jesus Christ. This is the unending life, the real life! (Jude 1:20-21, MSG)

Faith is a gift from God. But God does not force anything on us. We are saved by grace through faith. But it does not end there. We are called to live our lives with the Holy Spirit GPS turned on. If we ask the Holy Spirit dwells in us and makes us whole and holy. God wants to be very present in every aspect of our lives. Isn’t that just amazing? The Giver of Life wants to give us life and more life!

I say let’s switch the Holy Spirit GPS on! Permanently! So when it’s time to struggle we would not struggle alone. When it’s time to rejoice we would not rejoice alone. When it’s time to put faith in action we would be powered by the Holy Spirit. When it’s time to study the Word of God our eyes would be opened by the Holy Spirit. So we could understand. We could trust. We could love. We could live fully. We could be holy.

Let’s pray with the words of St. Augustine:

Breath in me,
O Holy Spirit,
that my thoughts may all be holy.
Act in me,
O Holy Spirit,
that my work, too, may be holy.
Draw my heart,
O Holy Spirit,
that I love but what is holy.
Strengthen me,
O Holy Spirit,
to defend all that is holy.
Guard me, then,
O Holy Spirit,
that I always may be holy.
Amen
