A (Wo)Man After God’s Own Heart
What’s your goal in life? Mine is to become a woman after God’s own heart. I can’t do it. But God can. In order to become a woman after God’s own heart I need to seek God’s heart. I need to abide in God’s presence and let the Holy Spirit mold me.
The Bible tells tells us that David was a man after God’s own heart (1 Sam. 13:14, CEB). David was not perfect by all means but his heart was at the right place. He knew that God is God and he is not. David knew that apart from God he is nothing (Psalm 16:2). David’s life was deeply rooted in God and he cherished his personal relationship with God. David was focused on God throughout his life. And when he sinned, he repented in humility and turned back to God.
Create a clean heart for me, God;
put a new, faithful spirit deep inside me!
Please don’t throw me
out of your presence;
please don’t take your holy spirit
away from me.
Return the joy of your salvation to me
and sustain me with a willing spirit.
(Psalm 51: 10-12, CEB)
David’s love for God never faltered. David’s relationship with God was so real and authentic that he turned to God in pain and in joy. David lived his life with God. David was sensitive to God, faithful to God, and obedient to God. A man after God’s own heart. That’s what I want, too.
By God’s grace I dedicate my life to be sensitive to God, faithful to God, and obedient to God. I know I am nothing apart from God. I want to live my life with God. Every. Single. Day. In good times and in bad times. In health and in sickness. I will love and honor God all the days of my life. How about you? Are you ready to ask God to make you a (wo)man after God’s own heart?
Gracious God,
We come to you as we are
and ask you to make us
(wo)men after your own heart.
We love you and we adore you.
Show us your heart.
Enable us to become like you.
Abide in us, pour out grace upon grace.
May Your Holy Spirit
create a new heart in us.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

We all need a “spiritual heart transplant” God gives this to us through faith in His son Jesus Christ. This is my goal to be a woman of God, a daughter, a sister of Christ.
Yes, we all need Jesus on this quest. Great to share the journey with you, Susan. Traveling mercies on your faith adventure!

Today I am stepping across the line. I’m tired of waffling and
I’m finished with wavering, I’ve made my choice, the verdict is in, and my
decision is irrevocable. I’m going God’s way. There’s no turning back now! I
will live the rest of my life serving God’s purposes with God’s people on God’s
planet for God’s glory. I will use my life to celebrate his presence, cultivate
his character, participate in his family, demonstrate his love, and communicate
his word. Since my past has been forgiven, and I have a purpose for living, and
a home awaiting in heaven, I refuse to waste any more time or energy on shallow
living, petty thinking, trivial talking, thoughtless doing, useless regretting,
hurtful resenting, or faithless worrying. Instead I will magnify God, grow to
maturity, serve in ministry, and fulfill my mission in the membership of his
family. Because this life is preparation for the next, I will value worship over
wealth, “we” over “me,” character over comfort, service over status, and people
over possessions, position, and pleasures. I know what matters most and I’ll
give it all I’ve got. I’ll do the best I can with what I have for Jesus Christ
today. I won’t be captivated by culture, manipulated by critics, motivated by
praise, frustrated by problems, debilitated by temptation, or intimidated by the
devil. I’ll keep running my race with my eyes on the goal, not the sidelines or
those running by me. When times get tough, and I get tired, I won’t back up,
back off, back down, back out or backslide. I’ll just keep moving forward by
God’s grace. I’m Spirit-led, purpose-driven and mission-focused so I cannot be
bought, I will not be compromised, and I shall not quit until I finish the race.
I’m a trophy of God’s amazing grace so I will be gracious to everyone, grateful
for everyday, and generous with everything that God entrusts to me. To my Lord
and Savior Jesus Christ, I say: However, Whenever,
Wherever, and Whatever you ask me to do,
my answer in advance is yes! Wherever you lead and whatever the cost, I’m ready.
Anytime. Anywhere. Anyway. Whatever it takes Lord; Whatever it
takes! I want to be used by you in such a way, that on that final
day I’ll hear you say, “Well done, thou good and faithful one. Come on in, and
let the eternal party begin!” In Finnish here: http://sanapuh.wordpress.com/2005/07/24/paamaaratietoinen-elama/
Amen, amen, amen. Thank you, Simo, for sharing this. Blessings to you!
Hey there… I hopped over from Ann’s… I love the story of David… I often ponder about his willingness to forgive Saul for such evil directed toward him and how that must have captivated the attention of Abba Father… a heart like His… long-suffering love and mercy…
Blessings to you..
