Take a Pause – Regularly

Take a Pause – Regularly

Take a pause - regularlyRunning around and always doing something is not our purpose in life. Our purpose comes from communing with our Maker. And that is not possible if we constantly are stressed out about things and press on fitting more stuff in our already busy lives. We do need to take a pause and do it regularly.

Otherwise, we will burn out. Not only physically and mentally but also spiritually. And that’s the opposite of God’s will for our lives. Yet, sadly, many of us believe in our hearts that we need to prove our worthiness by working much and being able to show some results. Just as we can’t save ourselves we can’t make ourselves otherwise good or acceptable either. Only grace will do. Hence it’s time to take a pause, don’t you think?

So then God’s choice is not dependent on human will, nor on human effort [the totality of human striving], but on God who shows mercy [to whomever He chooses—it is His sovereign gift]. (Rom. 9:16, AMP;*)

Take a pause – regularly

If we are not called to work our heads and tails off and our effort will not get us even any extra points, we are free to live our lives creatively with God. Even Jesus rested, took time to be alone with his Father. Jesus was human, the Bible tells Jesus not only wept but he also slept. He took care of himself. Not only spiritually but also physically and mentally. We need to do the same.

How do we start? We start taking a pause – regularly. Different kinds of pauses. How about naps? Time to smell the roses? Enough sleep? Meditation walks? Prayer retreats? There are many ways to take a pause and you need to find your ways to do it. But a habit of taking a pause will bless you. Because life – or salvation – is not about achieving and performing. It is about relying on God and enjoying him. So let’s take a pause – regularly.

Gracious God,
Thanks for inviting us to rest in you.
Enable us to embrace grace as our way of life.
Help us to remember to take a pause – regularly-
and learn to truly enjoy you.
Bless our time for rest and restoration.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Q4U: Do you pause regularly? How does this habit bless you? Have a blessed weekend!

Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim, as you *[As you might have noticed, I enjoy reading the Bible in different translations and love comparing them. I have started linking the Bible verses toBiblegateway.com so you can easily read (and compare) them in the different versions I’ve used while preparing each post.].
